Get In The Game!

Ringette is an amazing game for all ages and skill levels.

See below for information on the various stages/levels of ringette.

Start Here:Learn To Skate

Learn to Skate programs are generally targeted at youth and adults who never learned or would like to improve their skating and build confidence before adding the complexities of a regular ringette program.

Learning to skate is generally part of Children’s Ringette provided those participants start at about 5-6 years of age. For children who start skating later, a learn to skate program separate from ringette (may still be run by a ringette association) may be the better entry point.

Participants with no previous skating experience but older (around the ages of 9-11) are encouraged to complete a basic skating program before joining ringette.

Each community will have different approaches to delivering learn to skate programs. You should contact your local association for more information. You may also want to check out a CanSkate program in your area. CanSkate is recognized as one, if not the best, learn to skate program in the country.

Generally, Learn to Skate programs lead into Intro to Ringette programs and these lead into Flex or Classic Ringette. To see how these and all the other programs relate to one another, check out the <href=" find-your-ringette"="">Find Your Ringette page.

Intro To Ringette

Intro to Ringette programs are targeted primarily at youth and adult participants (but can be made available for older children) who possess basic skating skills but did not begin ringette as early as their peers.

These programs quickly introduce participants to ringette basics so they are confident joining a ringette team after completion.

Program components include rules orientation, basic strategies of the game, and time to practice the basics of ring control.

Each association will develop its own program with different frequency and length of program.

See your local association for more information on upcoming programs.

 Children's Ringette (12 and Under)

Children’s Ringette includes Active Start, U10 and U12. The focus throughout Children’s Ringette is on fun and maximum participation.

For Active Start and some of U10, play will occur on a smaller surface (cross-ice or half-ice) with appropriately sized nets to allow each player more ring time and opportunities to hone ring control, passing and shooting skills, as well as fundamental skating skills.

  • Active Start will play 3 vs 3 plus goalies, cross-ice games, when games are played.  Note: Ringette Alberta does not recommend games at Active Start.
  • U10 Step 1 will play 3 vs 3 plus goalies, half-ice games
  • U10 Step 2 will play 3 vs 3 plus goalies, half-ice games
  • U10 Step 3 and U12 will remain on full ice
  • Officials will not be used for U10 Step 1 and Step 2 games.

 Classic Ringette (12 and Over)

Classic ringette spans from U14 to U19, and ranges from C level ringette to AA ringette.
Regardless of the level of play all ringette is competitive, however the A and AA teams may have a greater commitment expectation due to additional training sessions.
Your athlete's team will be announced after evaluation at the beginning of the season.

Open Ringette (Adult)

Adult ringette is the fastest growing segment of ringette. Like classic ringette, all open league ringette is competitive with different levels of play from C level to A level.

Games and practice schedules vary by team.

See OPEN ringette association on the association directory to find your team.
